Lt. Col. Daniel J. Martinez Sr. US Army (Ret.)
entered into rest October 22, 2005 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 88.
He was born April 28, 1917 in Brownsville, Texas to the late Julian Daniel
Martinez and Emilia (Hernandez) Martinez.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years Josie (little Flower) v. Martinez IN 1997. He served his country for 30 years, retiring in 1968. He participated in the Normandy invasion, the Battle of the Bulge, and other numerous campaigns. In addition he served in Korea and Southeast Asia during the Vietnam ear. Survivors include his daughters, Emily J. Grundmann and Husband Henry, and Alice Martinez, sons, Daniel J. Martinez Jr., and wife Carolyn, Robert E. Martinez and wife Lynda, and Richard P. Martinez, eight grandchildren , Danette Moralez, Danny C. Martinez, Kelly Martinez, Jeff Klaus, Eric Grundmann, Katie Helpley, and Michael Martinez Linn; eleven great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Visitation will begin 4:30 until 9:00 PM on Thursday, October 27 with a rosary to start at 7:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. , Friday October 28 at Fort Sam Houston Gift Chapel. The committal service will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. For security purposes, please use the Binz-Englemann entrance and allow adequate time for the security check at the base gate. In leau of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the charity of your choice. |
